Shu Takada is a yo-yo artist from Japan who is among this week’s final 11 acts performing in the America’s Got Talent live shows. He’s hoping to earn enough votes from viewers at home to move on to the Finals for Season 17.
AGT Star Shu Takada Is a World Yo-Yo Champion
The 25-year-old from Tokyo is a six-time World Yo-Yo Champion. He won his first title in the competition when he was just 15 years old, he has been practicing yo-yo since he was 6 years old. His style is unique in that he incorporates dance and acrobatics into the performances.
Not only does Shu perform around the world, but he also holds classes and workshops in the art of yo-yoing. He’s sponsored by yo-yo brand YoYo Factory and sells signature yo-yos. Shu has also earned a following on social media, with over 160,000 followers on TikTok.
In 2019, Shu appeared on Germany’s Got Talent. Before his audition for AGT Season 17, he told the judges that his dream is “having my show and traveling around the world to share the coolness of yo-yoing.”

Shu Changed Simon Cowell’s Mind About Yo-Yoing
Before Shu auditioned for the judges, Simon Cowell told him that he usually finds yo-yo acts to be boring. However, Shu proved him wrong with his performance, in which he danced around the stage and even did flips while yo-yoing.
There was nothing boring about his audition, which earned a standing ovation from all four judges. Heidi Klum called it “the best yo-yoing we’ve ever seen.” Howie Mandel told Shu that he “made the yo-yo cool.” Cowell predicted that people would watch the performance on repeat.
Shu earned four “yes” votes from the judges to move on, and now he’s about to perform a new routine in the live shows. It’s up to America to decide if they want him to go to the Finals. Check out his latest performance on Tuesday night’s new show, and vote for him on the NBC website or the AGT app.
